Its because he's the star without much defensive help so it becomes even easier to pick on his defense right now. Other guys can play bad defense, but the overall team defense still does well. Luka only had that luxury for 1.5 years in his career. Even on a night where he plays good defense, the team can give up 120+. Hard to give him credit if he does well because of it, and easy to give him blame if you just see the box score and the other team scored a lot.
